Abstract: | Research into the role of audition in a mobile robot has not been given the attention it deserves. This project is an attempt to emphasise the effectiveness of a computationally cheap method of including this vital sense into a mobile robot. The project shows that it is possible to use readily available electronic components and efficient algorithms to extract and analyse the localisation information inherent in a stereophonic signal. This report details the software and hardware development of the cats ears project and presents a set of preliminary results.
