Abstract:Over the past years different techniques have been proposed for face recognition and for facial feature extraction. This research will describe a method to extract the main facial features into smaller windows so that each window will contain a feature. Using simple algorithms, the features are described by deformable parameterised geometric templates. This is illustrated by using the real images. The final parameter values can be used for the description and for the recognition of the features. For reasons of time, the selection for eyes, nose and mouth is developed and the fitting of the template is done for the eyes, for the closed mouth but not for the nose. A current controversy in face recognition and facial feature extraction is whether it can be done in parallel or serial processing. This project found considerable benefit from serial processing.
