Optionally the PG1024 version 1.5 or the PG1280 3.1 Windows drivers may be installed.
1.2. How do I install my sound card and or CD ROM drive under Windows 95?
Windows 95 runs an Autodetection to set up your hardware during the installation of the Operating System. Normally it will detect your hardware and make all the correct settings automatically. Letting Windows 95 Autodetection detect your hardware should avoid these problems (and is recommended).
1.3. Should any Media Vision drivers be present in my CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT?
In general, the answer is no. Add the command word REM, followed by a space, to the beginning of any Media Vision driver lines from your system files. There are some notable exceptions to this rule. For instance, the MINI406A.SYS and CDROM.SYS drivers used on the Premium 3D SCSI and Pro 3D SCSI sound cards, and the SLCD.SYS driver used with our sound cards which feature a Sony CD host adapter.
Here are some examples of lines which should have REM, followed by a space, inserted at the beginning of the line.
Sound...
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\MVSOUND.SYS D:3 Q:7 S:1,220,1,5 M:0

DEVICE=C:\some directory name\TSLCDR.SYS /D:MVCD001 /R
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\MCAM950.SYS
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\FDCD.SYS /D:MVCD005
Some lines may start with DEVICEHIGH, rather than DEVICE. You would still insert the REM, followed by a space, at the beginning of the line. You must shut down and restart Windows 95 after making changes to your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT system files.
1.4. Can I use the Media Vision Pocket Tools?
You may still use the Pocket CD and Pocket Recorder utilities. The Pocket Mixer will not work properly and it is not the recommended mixer to use. Use the Windows 95 MultiMedia Volume Control, (mixer) instead.
1.5. What about the BASS, Treble, and Enhanced sound modes for my card? How do I access these features with the Windows 95 mixer?
The mixer provided with Windows 95 will allow you to access this feature. You will need to click on the Advanced Controls button to access these features.
1.6. My sound card uses MidiSoft's Sound Impressions to control my sound card. Do I still use this under Windows 95?
No. Use the Windows 95 MultiMedia applications, CD Player, Media Player and Volume Control. If you still wish to use Sound Impressions, do not use its mixer function at all. It is recommended that you disable the display of the Sound Impressions Mixer by selecting Options, and taking the check off the Mixer selection. The Sound Impressions Wave Editor will function OK under Windows 95.
1.7. What about the SRS, Bass, and treble features provided with the Sound Impressions mixer? How will I access these features?
The mixer provided with Windows 95 will allow you to access these features. You will need to click on the Advanced Controls button to access these features.
1.8. In general, how do I view or change the settings for my sound card?
You should be able to make these changes through the Control Panel.
Click Start
Click Settings.
Select Control Panel.
After Control Panel loads, select System.
Click on the Device Manager tab.
Scroll down to the Sound Card and select it, (you'll need to expand
the branch out by clicking on the (+) to the left of the Sound Card
device name).
Now click on Properties
Click on the Resources tab.
Highlight the setting you wish to change. If Automatic Configuration
is checked, take off the check.
Select Change Settings.
You will see a list of resources currently assigned to the sound card. Below that may be a list of Basic Configurations. First, scroll through the Basic Configurations to see if one of these choices includes the change you desire to make. Within many of the Basic Configurations you can select an individual setting, like an IRQ, and change its value. Not all settings can be changed; if a setting cannot be changed it will be grayed out, and that setting will not respond when you attempt to select it with your mouse pointer.
1.9. I see that I can choose from several different Basic Configurations. Which one should I choose?
For the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and Pro Audio Studio family of cards there are three Basic Configurations. The first is:
Basic Configuration 0; this configuration sets up only the PAS 16 native mode driver, but has no Sound Blaster emulation nor does it have SCSI CD host adapter support.
Basic Configuration 1 adds the SCSI CD host adapter.
Basic Configuration 2 adds the Sound Blaster emulation, as well as the SCSI CD host adapter.
For the Premium 3D, Deluxe, and Prosonic 16 family of cards there are two Basic Configurations.
Basic Configuration 0 sets up the native mode driver for the sound card.
Basic Configuration 1 adds the settings for MPU401 emulation.
1.10. What are the values that I will find under the Basic Configurations?
For the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and Pro Audio Studio family of sound cards, you will find:

1.11. Should I run my Media Vision installation utilities, like INSTALL.EXE?
In general, you should never run these utilities under Windows 95. These utilities will attempt to install drivers that are not compatible with Windows 95.
1.12. Autodetection is not setting up my hardware. How can I correct this?
Windows 95 has a CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Remove any Media Vision hardware drivers from those lines; reboot the PC, and rerun the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.
1.13. How do I view settings for my Midi Mapper?
Go into the Control Panel
Select MultiMedia.
Click on the Midi tab.
1.14. How do I configure my DOS applications with sound to run under Windows 95?
Most applications will run fine. If you need to make special settings, select the short cut by clicking on it with the right mouse button.
Select Properties.
Click on the Program tab.
Select Advanced.
You can add any necessary real mode drivers (just as if you would add them to your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files). Drivers added in this manner will not load during a normal Windows 95 session; the drivers only load if this particular shortcut is run.
1.15. My PC uses the Symphony Chipset. How do I load SYMPFIX.COM under Windows 95?
Load SYMPFIX.COM from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file just as you did previously. It is recommended to place the file SYMPFIX.COM in your root directory, and place the Sympfix command line as the first line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Here's an example of the line:
C:\SYMPFIX.COM
The SYMPFIX.COM file can be downloaded from the Media Vision BBS, or from America Online as well as CompuServe. The filename to download is SYMPFIX.EXE.
2.1. Sound Blaster emulation is not being setup. How do I correct this?
Under the Device Manager - Sound Card - Properties - change the configuration to Basic Configuration 1.
If this is not successful, remove all sound drivers from the device manager. Rerun the Add New Hardware Wizard.
You may also have to:
Select Settings
Click Control Panel.
Select the MultiMedia icon.
Click the Advanced tab.
Expand the Audio Devices branch.
Select Properties.
Disable the audio functions. This allows the 32 bit sound driver in Windows 95 to relinquish control of the sound card to the application.
2.2. My card now makes banging and crashing sounds or, sometimes, no sounds. How do I correct this?
An application is contending for the control of the sound card's mixer. This condition was initially reported with After Dark version 3.0. Disable any screen savers. Even though the 3.0 version seems to work fine in all other respects, it resets the MIDI volume level to maximum if you enable sounds. Two ways have been found to get around the problem. You can either turn After Dark sounds off, or you can leave the Volume Control dialog open.
2.3. How do I add the /W:0 switch, to my configuration under Windows 95?
Go into the Device Manager and click on the parent device for
the PAS 16.
Click on Properties.
Click on the Settings tab.
There will be a setting for Enable Warm Boot; click on it. Place
a check in the box. Restart.
2.4. How do I add the T:1 switch, to my configuration under Windows 95?
Go into the Device Manager and click on the parent device for
the PAS 16.
Click on Properties.
Click on the Settings tab.
There will be setting for Enable 28Mhz Clock. Place a check
in the box. Restart.
2.5. I can't get the microphone to record. How do I change the mixer to use the microphone to record?
Run two instances of the volume control application. On the first one:
Select Options
Click Properties.
Click on Recording.
Make sure the Microphone is checked in the list of items below.
Click OK.
On the second, instance:
Select Options.
Click Properties.
Playback is probably already selected; make sure you have the Microphone selected in the list below.
Click OK.
3.1. I have lost the use of my Midi Port. How can I enable it again?
If you cannot use your Midi Port:
Go into Control Panel.
Click on the System icon.
Click on the Device Manager tab.
Go down to sound cards, and select the Prosonic 16, Deluxe, Jazz16 driver.
Select Properties.
Select the Resources tab.
Make sure you select Basic Configuration 1 in Device manager. Configuration 0 does not provide the resources for MIDI support. Configuration 0 is the default the install Wizard uses for specific devices.
3.2. I don't think my Wavetable card is working. What can I do?
You'll have to set your MIDI device.
Select Settings.
Choose Control Panel.
Select the MultiMedia icon.
Click the Advanced tab.
Expand the Midi Devices and Instruments branch, and add the external port. Some sound cards will allow you to also select the daughter board option.
4.1. Is my PCMCIA Sound Card supported under Windows 95?
As of the date of this writing, there is no support for the Media Vision PCMCIA Sound Card under Windows 95.
5.1. My drive constantly spins when I put a CD into the drive. How can I stop this?
You have your drive set to Auto Detect when a CD is inserted into the drive. This is very easy to fix. You will need to access your Device Manager to do this. You will need to access the System icon in your Control Panel to do this. Here is how:
Click Start
Click Settings.
Select Control Panel.
After Control Panel loads, select System.
Click on the Device Manager tab.
Click the CD-ROM type of device.
Your CD-ROM will now be listed.
Select the CD-ROM drive.
Click on Properties.
Select the Settings tab.
Remove the check from the Auto Insert Notification box.
Click OK
5.2. I have a PAS 16, my sound works, but my CD-ROM drive, which is connected to the SCSI interface on the sound card, is not being recognized. I'm not getting CD-Audio. What do I do?
Make sure you have chosen the correct configuration for your sound card. There are three separate configurations for the PAS 16. Some of the configurations support the SCSI interface, and others do not. Here are the configurations.
Basic Configuration 0 (default)
Basic Configuration 1
Basic Configuration 2
If you do not have Basic Configuration 1 or 2 selected, you will not have access to your CD-ROM drive. Once you install SCSI support, you will have access to both audio and data CDs.
5.3. I'm using a Panasonic, Reveal, Mitsumi or Sony CD ROM, and Windows 95 did not install the driver for my drive. What can I do?
It may be necessary to load the Real Mode CD host adapter driver into CONFIG.SYS. Here are some examples of how the line should appear:
Sony
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\SLCD.SYS /D:MVCD001 /B:1F88 /M:P
Mitsumi
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\MTMCDAE.SYS /D:MVCD001 /P:390 /A:0
/M:30 /I:10 /T:6
Panasonic
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\SGCDU.SYS /D:MVCD001 /P:390 /M:30
/V /N:1
In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file add the MSCDEX.EXE line:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MVCD001 /M:10 /V
As of the date of this writing, version 3.25 MSCDEX.EXE is the most current version. It will report as version 3.25 when loaded as a real mode driver; it will report as version 3.95 when loaded as a protected mode driver.
5.4. My Sony CD ROM drive is not recognized anymore. What can I do?
Users who have a Sony CDU-31 or CDU-33A drive being driven from a PAS 16 card's Sony interface must change the address specified for the Sony driver in the Device Manager. Here's how to see the address:
Open your Device Manager.
Open up CD-ROM controllers.
Select Sony Proprietary CD-ROM Controller.
Click on Properties.
Select the Resources tab.
For Input/Output Range, it will probably have 340-343 with the setting based on Basic Configuration 1.
This is not correct for the PAS16 CD-ROM interface.
Un-check the box titled Use automatic settings.
Then, change the Setting based on the Basic configuration 0; change the Input/Output range to 1F88-1F8B and the Interrupt Request to an unused IRQ. The PAS 16 host adapter's Sony interface does not require an IRQ, but the Basic Configuration 0 requires an IRQ assignment.
After rebooting, the CDU-31A or CDU-33A drive will be available for use.
It may also be necessary to load the Real Mode SLCD.SYS driver into CONFIG.SYS. Here is an example of how the line should appear:
DEVICE=C:\some directory name\SLCD.SYS /D:MVCD001 /B:1F88 /M:P
5.5. After installing the MV600 CD ROM drive, I'm getting intermittent Protection Fault errors in Module ESDI at (some address). How can I correct this?
1) Go into System
Select the Device Manager tab.
Select the CD drive and click on Properties.
Click on the Settings tab.
Remove the check in the box labeled Auto Insert Notification.
If you wish to leave Auto Insert Notification checked, then place any readable CD (audio or data) into the drive. By simply leaving a readable CD in the drive whenever Windows 95 launches this error is circumvented.
If you are still experiencing problems, then you may try the following:
2) Go into Control Panel
Select System.
Select Performance.
Select File System. Select the CD ROM tab.
Select Quad-speed or higher for the Optimize Access Pattern
setting.
3) Go into System
Select the Performance tab.
Select File System.
Check the box labeled Disable 32 bit protected mode drivers.
4) Go into Device Manager.
Select the MV600 CD drive (OTI.C2 Stingray 8322IDE).
Select Properties.
Now select the Settings tab and see if there is a check on Disconnect.
Remove the check under Options.
Disconnect should only be enabled if the CD drive is a SCSI device.
Click OK.
Click OK again at the next window to exit.
Restart WINDOWS 95.
5.6. My Phillips CM205 or CM206 drive is not recognized by Autodetection. How can I install it?
Log onto the Phillips LMSI Bulletin Board and download the Beta protected mode driver for the Phillips drives. The BBS Number is (719) 593-4081
5.5. The CD drive connected to my Premium 3D SCSI sound card is not recognized by Autodetection. How can I install it?
You must load the MINI406A.SYS and CDROM.SYS drivers into your CONFIG.SYS, just as you previously did in DOS. The NCR 406A SCSI host adapter chip (on the sound card) does not have Windows 95 protected mode drivers at this time. Here are the lines for your CONFIG.SYS file:
DEVICE=C:\MEDVSN\MINI406A.SYS /IO=230
DEVICE=C:\MEDVSN\CDROM.SYS /D:MVCD001
In AUTOEXEC.BAT add the MSCDEX.EXE line:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MVCD001 /M:10 /V
5.8. I have the Reno drive with the 8 bit SCSI adapter card. Do I still need to load ASPI3X80.SYS into CONFIG.SYS?
You must load the ASPI3X80.SYS, ADTC-CD.SYS, and ASCSI.SYS drivers into your CONFIG.SYS, just as you previously did in DOS. This particular SCSI host adapter does not have Windows 95 protected mode drivers. Here are the lines for your CONFIG.SYS file:
DEVICE=C:\RENO\ASPI3X80.SYS /MD800
DEVICE=C:\RENO\ADTC-CD.SYS /D:MVCD002
DEVICE=C:\RENO\ASCSI.SYS
In AUTOEXEC.BAT add the MSCDEX.EXE line:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MVCD002 /M:10 /V
