Using Tabular Notation to Obtain Binary Relations

A common use of tabular descriptions is as a convenient way of choosing an appropriate subset of binary relations from a set of potential relations. In Section 4.1.4 we construct a matrix of processes against entity types and, by putting differently shaped marks in each cell, choose the roles which are anticipated for appropriate types of entity in each process. In Section 5.3 we use a cause-effect matrix to supply binary relations between the inputs of the system and the outputs to which they are causally linked.
