Dependability in Agent Systems

David Roberston

One of the least well understood concepts in agent system design is dependability, not just in the function of individual agents but in the function of agent societies and in the methods of engineering leading to dependable multi-agent architectures. I shall survey this area (from my own "outsiders" point of view) and highlight some of the problems. I shall then relate these to our SLIE project, concerned with modelling agent systems.
