| Abstract: | We provide a framework for the description of music representation systems in terms of two dimensions, which we call Structural Generality and Expressive Completeness. This allows us to give some criteria for the evaluation of such systems, dependent on the aims of the user of the system. We then survey a range of current representation systems and their implementations in the light of our characterisation. |
