Abstract:Simulation is an important activity in the design process. Evaluating a design by simulating the dynamic behaviour of a proposed design forms a good basis for design exploration and for gaining a better understanding of the structure of the design problem. Object-oriented programming is widely recognised as being a powerful way of modelling dynamic systems and of building AI-based design support systems which have the capability to deal with the complexities of real applications. In this paper, we consider some of the issues of design and simulation in terms of their relationships in the process of design exploration and present an object-oriented simulation system architecture for building AI-based simulation systems.
