Abstract: | The effects of including topographic constraints on the connectivity patterns of a two-layer model of hippocampal function, as the one proposed in (O'Reilly & McClelland 94), are investigated; specifically, pattern separation and completion efficiencies are assessed under such constraints. Anatomical data on cortical projections into the hippocampus justifying the use of topographic connections are described, and an interpretation of the results obtained is outlined within the probabilistic framework also presented in (O'Reilly & McClelland 94).
