Abstract:The feasibility of using genetic algorithms to optimise hydrocarbon production networks was investigated. It was found that, due to the computationally intensive evaluation function, problem specific knowledge had to be introduced in the form of custom operators and a new representation to enable the GA to produce good results in reasonable time. Suggestions are made for extending the techniques presented to larger problems.
