Abstract: | This thesis describes a framework for teaching pronunciation. Based on an extensive literature suvey, the constraints for such a system are evaluated and a possible approach is proposed. The implemented system "MPPT" (abbreviation of My Personal Pronunciation Tool) provides the student with many facilities for assisting the pronunciation acquisition process. Unlike conventional approaches to computer aided language teaching, the teacher is included as necessary part of the system. the prerequisite of the tool, a strong interaction between the system and the teacher facilitates the exploitation of the individual skills of both parts (i.e. computer and human teacher) resulting in a powerful environment for teaching and learning pronunciation.
