Abstract:There has been a growing interest in recent years in handling uncertainty using Bayesian belief networks. These have been used in a variety of applications, e.g. medical diagnosis, map learning, language understanding, vision and heuristic search. The main aim of this project was to develop a tool to allow the investigation of different methods for propagating the measure of belief in each node in a Bayesian belief network. Two different methods have been investigated; Stochastic simulation and Logic sampling. The advantages and disadvantages of these two implemented methods have been assessed. A sensitivity analysis was also performed in order to investigate the robustness of the results. The belief network tool was developed using the advanced diagramming and modeling tool, HARDY, developed at AIAI.
