Languages for Interoperability of Software Systems

Yannis Kalfoglou

Yannis has suggested that the topic for discussion on Wednesday should be languages for interoperability of software systems. In other words, what's the point of aspiring "standards" like PIF, CDIF, RDF, UML and are they a plausible solution for knowledge sharing between significantly sized engineering groups? Are they likely to be useful as standards? Will we have to be fluent in them? What else might we need?

This really will be a discussion (not a seminar) but Yannis will start us off by summarising a couple of the notational systems (probably CDIF and RDF).
