An Information-Theoretic Perspective of the Knowledge Engineering Activity

Marco Schorlemmer

In this talk I shall attempt to justify my claim that the engineering activity of building knowledge artifacts out of different knowledge components -- particularly within the UPML architecture -- is nicely modelled by distributed information systems as defined within Barwise and Seligman's channel theory. I have the impression that such a perspective is going to provide us with the required formal machinery for deriving abstract lifecycle calculi.
