The Advanced Knowledge Technologies project has been running for just over two years and expects to run for another four. This is about the right time to consider some architectural commitments for the sort of "joined up", automated knowledge management envisaged by AKT. I will propose an architecture which may anchor the Edinburgh part of this activity. My aim is for this to be formal without being distanced from the needs of engineers doing large-scale, distributed knowledge engineering.
