Full Acceptance via Argumentation

Daniela Carbogim

Any rational agent must have a strategy for deciding whether a piece of uncertain information is acceptable or not. In this paper we argue for the use of argumentation theory to solve this problem. The decision process is seen as an internal argumentation, whereby the agent weights evidence for and against some piece of information. We work within a framework for belief revision which takes into account the agent's limited memory and limited capacities of inference, and apply a formal framework for argumentation to the problem of fully accepting information.
