Ontologies, Graphs and the Semantic Web

Stuart Aitken

This talk will describe on-going efforts to turn ontologies which were initially conceptualised as graphs, such as the Gene Ontology, into 'proper ontologies' with set-based semantics. Then, the layering of ontology languages over the RDF graph will be described and some features of the Jena-2 toolkit for manipulating RDF, and performing rule-based reasoning, will be shown.
