In these two talks, I will explain why I believe that ontology
mapping involves uncertainty, the methods that are available for
representing and handling uncertainty, and how these methods may be
applied to ontology mapping. These talks are given with the
purpose
of trying to clarify my own ideas in the subject, in the hope that this
will help me to identify the proper method for my current
research.
In this first part, I will give a description of what uncertainty is
and I will present some quantitative methods for representing
uncertainty. In particular, I will describe the probabilistic
approach, Bayesian networks, the Certainty Factor, and
Dempster-Shafer. In the second part, I will briefly overview some
qualitative methods, and I will explain how the methods can be applied
to ontology mapping.
