The Department of Artificial Intelligence has a long history of research and teaching in the area of Natural Language Processing/ Computational Linguistics. It has close links with the many other departments and centres within the University of Edinburgh which also work in the area of language. These include the Centre for Cognitive Science (CCS), the Human Communication Research Centre (HCRC), the Department of Linguistics and the Centre for Speech Technology Research. It is also linked to the European Network in Language and Speech (ELSNET).
