| Abstract: | Relations, the building blocks of situation theory, come with argument roles. Invariances across these roles affect the way we structure reality: the way we perceive and think about things. These argument roles also affect the way we talk about things, or so I claim in this paper. I show that relations can be classified by sorts of argument roles they come with, and that this classification helps us to understand some otherwise puzzling facts about sentences with bound anaphors. The situation theoretic notion of a type of argument role thus has a contribution to make to linguistic theory. |
