| Abstract: | This thesis describes tactical generation in Hungarian. Hungarian seems to be a challenge for generators because of its agglutinative morphology and rather free word order with explicit case marking. Anadditional motivation for the thesis is the lack of existing generation systems for this language.The generator of the project is a top-down generator which also uses a dynamic rule base. The chosen grammar formalism is a variant of PATR-II in LISP. The linguistic knowledge of the generator consists of three parts: syntax, semantics and morphology. Syntax and semantics have a constraint-based representation, where semantics instructs the grammatical component. In order to handle the agglutinative morphology of Hungarian, morphological features are added to the grammar to filter the choice of allomorphs, but morphophonology is dealt with in a postprocess. |
