Abstract:The motivation for this project was inspired by a LEGO competition in which a team of two LEGO MINDSTORMS robots had to play a competitive ball game. The dissertation is focussed on the development of one of the LEGO MINDSTORMS robots of the team of two built for the competition. For this purpose the capabilities and constraints of the LEGO MINDSTORMS are investigated. The task and elements of the task are reviewed and discussed. Several strategies are explained and discussed for playing the game. The strategy selected, one attacker robot and one defender robot is explained and implemented. The design, building and control the attacker robot is described and justified. Finally the importance of communication in multi-agent teams is shown and two versions of the defender robot are tested with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of the strategy implemented.
