| Abstract: | Facial expressions play an extremely important role in human interaction. Expressions provide tacit clues to emotional state and regulate communication.Successful computer modelling of human expressions remains an open research topic, despite over twenty years of dedicated research. Rectifying the emotional deficit in the current state-of-the-art of human modelling is becoming increasingly pressing as researchers strive for greater realism and achieve a deeper understanding of the role of emotional cues in communication.This project assesses some of the requirements of realistic facial modelling. It attempts to identify psychological, biomechanical and engineering constraints in the development of a facial animation system incorporating emotional cues.The development of an application is described, titled Vital, to allow the interactive visualisation and deformation of ;three-dimensional facial models, captured using passive-stereo cameras. |
