Abstract:This work was designed to compare different fuzzy interpretation methods when used in a fuzzy logic controller, and further to also examine the effect of different defuzzification techniques applied to the same fuzzy logic controller. An initial comparison is made between the results of the various implementations of the fuzzy logic controller and a standard control technique (PD control). The PD controller is used as a benchmark to evaluate the performance of each of the fuzzy logic controllers. Finally a more detailed comparison is made between the different fuzzy logic controllers using a wide range of criteria, including the average force applied to the system and the range of initial states of the system that the controller can control.
