Abstract: | In this project I develop a computational algorithm for producing mental space representations of discourse. The program, which is based on ideas from DRT, deals with the ambiguities introduced by attitudinal verbs such as "believes" which take sentential complements and also with those such as "seeks" which take an NP complement. Negation is implemented as a mental space construction and I discuss the treatment of the verb "is". Restrictions on anaphor resolution in such discourses are considered an algorithm is devised for making paraphrases of discourses using their mental space representations. A simple question answering process is developed using mental spaces. I also consider definite NPs from the point of view of roles and attempt to extent the notation of the earlier part of the project to improve the coverage of certain examples.
