Abstract
Reported are the main conclusions about the process of establishing
similarity a rrived at after many years of experimental research on
word recognition, classif ication of words of everyday usage (color
names, names of tableware, meals, frui t, vegetables), as well as
classification of common objects (coins, buttons etc) . It is argued
that under normal condition the Gestalt approach prevails, the di
mensional one being also used when required by the task.
